Breast Lift (Mastopexy) by Plastic Surgeons in Columbus, Ohio

Breast Lift Stock Image Pregnancy, nursing and gravity all take a toll on the perkiness and shape of a woman's breast. Many times, as breasts begin to sag, the nipple points downward and no longer appears to be located on the central mound of the breast. A breast lift (mastopexy) is a procedure that allows your plastic surgeon to lift and reshape your breasts and return your nipples to a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing position. Because the upper portion of the breast tends to flatten with age, depending on the size and shape of your breasts, a breast lift (mastopexy) surgery may need to be combined with breast augmentation (breast implants) to achieve optimal cosmetic results.

How Breast Lift (Mastopexy) is Performed

There are several different techniques available to your surgeon performing a breast lift (mastopexy). The goal of all approaches is to reshape the breast and return the nipple to its prior perkier and more youthful position. If breast augmentation (breast implant surgery) is preformed at the same time as your breast lift (mastopexy), the breast implants may be placed through the same incisions used for your breast lift (mastopexy).

Columbus Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Recovery

Your procedure will be done under general anesthetic in the operating room. When you wake from surgery you will be groggy and your chest will feel very sore. You will not be able to lift much for the first few days and your surgeon will give you specific postoperative instructions on gradually building your activity level. Your postoperative instructions will likely change depending on whether breast augmentation (breast implants) was preformed in conjunction with your lift. In general, women who have breast implants placed under the muscle are significantly more sore than women having only a breast lift (mastopexy). Either way, you should expect to be significantly swollen, bruised and uncomfortable for several days. You will not be able to stay alone for at least the first 24 hours after anesthesia. Prescription pain medication, in addition to chest and upper arm soreness inhibiting your range of motion, make you unable to drive for several days following your procedure.
